Description of the Project
The Twelve Streets Monument is located in the old city, declared of Cultural Interest by the Ministry of Culture.
The urban ordination of The Twelve Streets was carried out by Juan Bautista de Toledo in the year of 1613; therefore, it must be considered a continuation of the policy of Felipe II.
The restoration works, carried out between 2011 and 2012, consisted of:
- Recovery of existing original pieces of pilaster crowning, coping panels and protection bollards, as well as the execution of those new pieces needed in the same type of stone and original model
- Repair of existing acceptable pilasters and execution of brick pilasters that are missing from the monument according to the original design
- Execution of coping panels, union of pilasters
- Continuous coating for finishes of coping panels with plaster lime in a shade similar to the original
- Fence formed by two horizontal wooden crossbars embedded in the lateral pilasters that support the vertical bars of the fence
- Modification of the layout of the exit street, making it perpendicular to the roundabout
- Recovery of irrigation by gravity
- Planting native species
